Online Executive MBA: Formats, Fees and What to Check
Updated 27 October 2026
An online executive MBA combines the senior cohort of an EMBA with mostly online delivery. Most still include some in-person residential weeks — check how many, where, and whether travel and accommodation are included.
How online EMBAs differ from regular online MBAs
- Cohort: higher experience requirements and more senior classmates.
- Live sessions: more synchronous classes at fixed times — check the time zone.
- Residentials: in-person weeks are common and may be compulsory.
- Price: often closer to campus EMBA pricing than to low-cost online MBAs.
Questions to ask
- How many hours per week, and how many are live?
- How many residential weeks, where, and what is included in the fee?
- Is the degree certificate the same as for the campus programme?
- Is the qualification recognised by employers or regulators in your country? Some countries treat distance degrees differently.
- Can you pause or extend if work demands change, and is there a fee for that?
One-year online executive MBA?
Some providers market very short online executive programmes. Before enrolling, check whether the award is a full MBA degree or a certificate/diploma, and how many credits it carries.
